Cozumel's reef system is the reason Jacques Cousteau put this island on the world dive map, and it's why chartering here plays out differently from a day on the water in Cancún. You're not fighting sargassum or working around a party-boat schedule — you anchor over some of the clearest water in the Caribbean at Palancar reef, then run south to stand in three feet of water at El Cielo while cushion starfish sit on the sand under your feet. A private charter out of the island's own marinas gets you over both spots before the day-trip catamarans at the cruise terminal have even finished loading.
We run 45 to 50-foot yachts out of Cozumel with a captain and full crew, capacity for 10 to 15 guests, starting at $19,500 MXN for four hours. Book on WhatsApp with a 50% deposit and we handle the rest — captain, crew, fuel, water, soft drinks, ice, snorkel gear and life vests are already built into that price.
What's Included in Every Cozumel Charter
Every boat we run out of Cozumel comes with the same baseline built into the rate, no matter which yacht you end up on:
- Licensed captain and crew
- Fuel for the day's route
- Bottled water and soft drinks
- Ice
- Snorkel gear (masks and fins) and life vests for everyone aboard
Nobody upsells you a life vest at the dock, and the baseline doesn't change from the smallest boat in the fleet to the largest — the rate moves with the yacht, not with what gets handed to you when you step aboard. A private chef, extra bar options, or a cake for a celebration are the kind of add-ons you arrange with us ahead of time, priced separately from the charter rate. If you've never booked a crewed charter before, that's the short version of what "crewed" means in practice — check the full fleet to see which layout fits your group.
How Much Does a Cozumel Yacht Charter Cost
Cozumel charters start at $19,500 MXN for four hours on our 45 to 50-foot fleet, captain and crew included. Capacity runs 10 to 15 guests depending on the boat, so the per-person math comes down to how many people you bring:
- 4-hour charter, 45-50 ft yacht, captain + crew: from $19,500 MXN
- Capacity: 10-15 guests
- Full boat of 15: about $1,300 MXN per person
- Group of 10: about $1,950 MXN per person
A bachelorette group or family reunion filling every seat gets the lowest per-person rate; a couple booking the same boat for a private morning is paying for the whole boat, not a seat. Longer charters and multi-stop full-day itineraries run beyond the four-hour base — send us your group size and date on WhatsApp and we'll quote the exact boat and duration.

Marinas and Getting to the Island
We run Cozumel charters out of Marina Caleta and Puerto de Abrigo, both a short taxi ride from the ferry dock and the cruise terminals. Most guests reach the island one of two ways: a 45-minute passenger ferry from Playa del Carmen, with departures throughout the day, or a direct flight into Cozumel International Airport (CZM) if you're coming from outside the Yucatán. The Playa del Carmen ferry terminal sits downtown, a few blocks off Fifth Avenue, so if you're staying in Playa you can walk to the dock. Tell us how you're arriving when you book and we'll confirm which marina and what time to meet the crew.
Staying in Playa del Carmen or Tulum and weighing a boat on that side of the crossing instead? Our Riviera Maya charter guide covers charters that leave from the mainland.
Cruise Ship Passengers: Fitting a Charter Into Your Port Day
Cozumel is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean, and a private charter is the fastest way to see the reef without spending your port day in line for a shore-excursion bus. We pick you up right at the cruise terminal and have you back with time to spare before all-aboard — which is exactly why the four-hour charter is the most-booked option on the island: enough time for Palancar reef and El Cielo without cutting your return close.
Send us your ship, dock time and all-aboard time on WhatsApp when you book, and we'll build the timing backward from your departure instead of forward from a generic start time.
Tip
If your ship docks before 9am, take the first charter slot of the day — the reef is calmer before the afternoon wind picks up, and you'll be back at the terminal with hours to spare.
The Route: Palancar Reef, El Cielo, and Punta Sur
A typical Cozumel charter runs one direction along the leeward coast, then back:
- Marina Caleta or Puerto de Abrigo (departure) — captain briefing and gear check, underway within minutes of stepping aboard.
- Palancar reef — one of the top snorkel and dive sites in the Caribbean, close to the southwest shore. Coral walls and swim-throughs, with visibility that regularly runs past 100 feet. This is where most of your snorkel time goes.
- El Cielo starfish sandbar — a further run south, in about three feet of clear water over white sand, with cushion sea stars scattered across the bottom. No current, no real depth — most guests just stand and take photos.
- Punta Sur and the untouched southern beaches — on the way back, the island's southern tip, with stretches of coastline that see almost none of the foot traffic on Cozumel's cruise-ship side.
Ask about a 6 to 8-hour charter if you want all three stops with real time to swim at each one, instead of a tighter four-hour loop.
Best Time to Book a Cozumel Yacht Charter
Cozumel's dry season runs November through April, with calmer seas, better visibility at both Palancar and El Cielo, and the most comfortable conditions on deck. May through October brings warmer water and the occasional afternoon squall typical of the Caribbean rainy season — charters still run, we just build the day's route around the weather. Water temperature barely moves either way: expect 79 to 84°F depending on the month, warm enough that most guests skip the wetsuit entirely.
- November-April: calmer seas, best visibility, high season
- May-October: warmer water, afternoon showers possible, routes adjusted day-of
Cruise traffic peaks midweek, when it's common for two or three ships to be in port at once. If you're coming off a ship Wednesday through Friday, book your slot a few days ahead — the same four-hour window that's easy to grab on a quiet Monday gets tighter when the island is at full capacity.
Sport Yacht or Catamaran: Choosing Your Boat
The standard Cozumel booking is a 45 to 50-foot yacht with captain and crew, comfortable for 10 to 15 guests — the same general size range as a sport yacht on our fleet chart. If your group is bigger, wants the flat open deck of a catamaran, or is planning something like a wedding that needs a larger boat, browse the full fleet or sort by class: sport yachts, catamarans, or motor yachts. Not every category is based on the island — message us on WhatsApp and we'll tell you straight whether what you want runs out of Cozumel or fits better as a Cancún or Puerto Aventuras charter.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to what we get asked most before booking a Cozumel charter:
- Can kids come on a Cozumel yacht charter? Yes — life vests are provided for the whole group, and the boats have shaded seating and an onboard bathroom. Tell us ages when you book so the captain can flag anything specific.
- Is there a bathroom on board? Yes. Boats in the 45-to-50-foot range come with one as standard — not something you need to ask about.
- Are pets allowed? It depends on the boat and the rest of your group that day — ask us on WhatsApp before you book.
- Can we bring our own food and drinks? In most cases, yes — snacks and drinks beyond what's included are fine to bring aboard. Confirm with us on WhatsApp when you book in case a specific boat has restrictions, or ask about catering as a paid add-on instead.
- Do we need to be strong swimmers for Palancar and El Cielo? El Cielo is about three feet deep, so non-swimmers can stand and enjoy it. Palancar has some current, so basic comfort in the water plus the provided life vest is enough for most guests — the crew stays close to anyone who'd rather hang near the boat than swim out to the reef.
- What should we bring? Swimsuit, reef-safe sunscreen, a change of clothes and a camera — everything else on the water is covered.
- How do we pay — deposit and balance? A 50% deposit on WhatsApp confirms your date and boat; we'll confirm the balance and payment method with you directly before the charter.
