Renting a yacht in Cancún in 2026 costs less than most travelers expect, and booking one takes less effort than landing a table at a name-brand steakhouse. Charters start at $10,000 MXN for four hours on a 38-45 ft boat and run to $80,000+ MXN for a 65-80 ft mega-yacht that holds a full wedding party. Every price already covers a licensed captain, crew, fuel, water, soft drinks, beer, ice and snorkel gear — the number on your card is the number we quoted you on WhatsApp.

We run more than 20 yachts out of two Cancún marinas — sport yachts, catamarans, motor yachts and mega-yachts from 38 to 80 feet — and book most of them straight over WhatsApp, the same line we use once you land to confirm your slip number and departure time. This guide lays out what a charter really costs by boat size, which marina you leave from, what's already paid for, where captains take guests, and how to book without a broker's markup.

How much does a Cancun yacht rental actually cost?

We price by hull length, quoted in 4-hour blocks — the standard half-day charter. Here's the ladder, in Mexican pesos:

  • Compact, 38-45 ft (sport yachts): $10,000-$22,000 MXN for 4 hours, 8-12 guests
  • Mid-size, 45-55 ft: $22,000-$40,000 MXN, 12-18 guests
  • Large, 55-65 ft (motor yachts): $40,000-$60,000 MXN, 15-20 guests
  • Mega, 65-80+ ft (mega-yachts): $60,000-$80,000+ MXN, up to 25 guests

Catamarans like our Lagoon 45 price in the mid-size band but carry more people comfortably, since the twin hulls open up far more deck space — ask for one if your group is 14-18 people who want room to move instead of a row of seats. Where you land inside each band comes down to the boat's age, brand and amenities: a newer hull with a flybridge and full shade sits at the top of its range, an older boat with the same capacity at the bottom.

Tip

Book 6-8 hours instead of 4 and your hourly rate drops roughly 20-25%. The captain and crew are already committed for the day, so each hour past the first four costs less. Most groups doing Isla Mujeres plus a reef stop book 6 hours anyway.

Where you depart from: Cancún's marinas

Charters leave from one of two marinas. Marina Cancún, beside Hotel Aquamarina in the Hotel Zone, sends out most of our sport yachts and mid-size boats. Puerto Cancún, at the north end of the zone, handles several of the larger motor yachts and mega-yachts. Which one you leave from depends on the yacht you book — we confirm the exact marina, dock and slip number on WhatsApp once your deposit clears, then send it again the morning of your charter.

Staying outside walking distance of either marina? Round-trip hotel-to-marina transport runs from $1,200 MXN and we can add it to your booking. Most Hotel Zone resorts sit a 10-20 minute taxi or shuttle from either marina, so you're rarely fighting traffic to make your departure time.

What's included in every charter

Every charter, no matter the yacht size, includes the same baseline — nothing gets tacked on as a line item at the end:

  • A licensed captain and full crew — every charter is a crewed charter, never bareboat
  • Fuel for the route you book
  • Bottled water, soft drinks and basic beer
  • Ice and coolers
  • Snorkel gear and life vests, including kids' sizes
  • Towels and a Bluetooth speaker

Add-ons if you want to level up

Everything above is baked into your quote. The extras below aren't — because not every group wants them — but they're what turn a boat ride into an event:

  • Private chef onboard, from $4,500 MXN — see our yacht with a private chef guide for sample menus
  • Professional DJ, from $8,000 MXN
  • Birthday or bachelorette decor, from $2,500 MXN — see our bachelorette party guide for the boats and group sizes that work best
  • Professional photography, from $5,500 MXN
  • Hotel-marina round-trip transport, from $1,200 MXN

Typical routes: where you'll actually go

Captains build the route around your group once you're aboard, but these stops cover most charters:

  • Isla Mujeres (30-40 minutes each way): Playa Norte for the postcard water, plus a snorkel stop at El Farito
  • El Meco reef: the easiest snorkel spot for beginners — shallow, calm, and a reliable place to see sea turtles
  • MUSA underwater museum, off Punta Nizuc: submerged sculptures in clear, shallow water
  • Punta Nizuc: calm, protected water — the best call with kids or non-swimmers aboard
  • Cancún's coral reef: part of the Mesoamerican Reef, worked into most 4-6 hour routes as a snorkel stop
  • Isla Contoy (8+ hours, permit required): a federal bird sanctuary north of Isla Mujeres, booked ahead since access is capped by permit

Most 4-hour charters fit two stops comfortably; a 6-8 hour day adds a third — say, Isla Mujeres on the way out and El Meco on the way back. If Isla Mujeres is the whole point, our Isla Mujeres yacht tour guide walks the route stop by stop. For a different day on the water, see our Cancún sunset cruise and Cancún fishing charter guides.

Which yacht fits your group?

Size the boat to your group, not the other way around — 18 people on a 45 ft boat feels like a packed elevator by hour two.

  • 8-12 people: a compact sport yacht, 38-45 ft
  • 12-18 people: a mid-size motor yacht, or a catamaran for the extra deck space
  • 15-20 people: a large motor yacht, 55-65 ft
  • Up to 25 people: a mega-yacht, 65-80+ ft
  • 30-50 people: two synchronized yachts on the same route, for the same total price as one much larger boat

Two yachts also means two captains and two routes you can tweak independently — useful when half the group wants to snorkel and the other half wants to stay on deck with a drink. For weddings and groups past 20, our large groups and yacht wedding guides cover deck layout and how the two-yacht setup works. Torn between hull types? Our catamaran vs. yacht comparison lays out the trade-offs. Two of our most-requested boats are the Lagoon 45 catamaran and the Pershing 50 "Icaro" — ask for either by name on WhatsApp, or browse the full fleet for what's open on your dates.

Best time to book: seasons and weather

High season runs December through April. Expect prices 15-25% above the ranges above, and book 2-4 weeks out — the fleet fills up fast around Christmas week and Spring Break. Low season, May through November, runs standard pricing, and the weather holds up well most weeks; September and October are the wettest if you're choosing dates. Either way, weather cancellations are fully refundable, and the captain makes that call the morning of, not the week before. Weekends book faster than weekdays in any season, and Saturday afternoons in high season are the first to go.

Cancellation policy

Cancel more than 48 hours out and you get a full refund. Cancel 24-48 hours out and it's a 50% refund. If we cancel for weather, it's 100% refunded, no exceptions.

How to book

Booking runs entirely on WhatsApp. Message +52 56 3954 1062 with your dates, group size and what you're after — reef time, Isla Mujeres, a birthday — and we'll send back two or three yachts that fit, with photos and exact pricing. A 50% deposit by card or transfer holds your slot; the balance is due the day of, once you're aboard. It's the same number you text when you land — for slip numbers, driver coordination, or to push your departure time if a flight runs late. Same-day bookings happen too, depending on what's still free, so it's worth a message even if you're already in Cancún and eyeing tomorrow.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what guests ask us most on WhatsApp before booking:

  • Can kids come on the boat? Yes. Life vests in kids' sizes are included at no charge, and Punta Nizuc's calm water is the best route with young children aboard.
  • Are pets allowed? Ask us on WhatsApp before booking — it depends on the specific yacht and the charter length.
  • Is there a bathroom onboard? Yes. Every boat in the fleet is 38 feet or longer and has at least one head.
  • Can we bring our own food and drinks? Yes. The included beer, soda and water are yours to use, and you're welcome to bring extra food or specific drinks aboard.
  • Do we pay everything upfront? No — a 50% deposit books the date, and the balance is due on the day of the charter.
  • How far ahead should we book? A few days' notice usually works in low season. For high season (December-April) or a specific boat like the Pershing 50, book 2-4 weeks out.
  • Can we pay in US dollars? We quote and charge in Mexican pesos. Foreign cards convert automatically through your bank, so USD and CAD cards work fine at checkout.
  • What should we bring? Sunscreen, a swimsuit and a change of clothes. Everything else — snorkel gear, towels, life vests — is already on the boat.
